Formlabs “FSU-2021” award was designed by KL

Karfidov Lab designed the 🏆 trophy statuette for Formlabs “Impact Award 2021”.

In this statuette, we tried to bring together the influence, capabilities and history behind 3D printing across many industries.

This technology and its’ booming growth allows new possibilities in terms of workflows, design and the whole approach to creating innovative products or improving existing ones.

Abiding by the Formlabs 2021 User Summit theme of “changing with the world”, we came up with a few basic principles on which we created a trophy that links past and present through versatility, balance and simplicity.

▶️Versatility: The use of additive technologies couldn’t be thinned out to a single field of application, therefore it’s “polyhedral” in our physical representation as well.

▶️Balance: With two mirrored pyramids, one stable and static at the base, the other dynamic and unstable at the top, we achieve the balance, which could be often solely delivered through 3D printing.

▶️Complex simplicity: For all its geometric simplicity, the technologically complicated shape is a challenge for most production methods, except for 3-d printing technology.
